Cadíz

February is the start of the Spanish carnival season which offers some of the best celebrations anywhere in the world. The best are to be found in Tenerife and Cadíz where the street parties are world renowned. Colourful processions and extravagant costumes abound in many cities and usually commence on Ash Wednesday.

The Cadíz carnival begins this year on the 28th February and ends on the 10th March and is arguably one of the most extravagant parties around, lasting some 10 days.  It´s the oldest carnival on mainland Spain. In the 16th century, Cadíz did a lively trade with Venice which brought knowledge of it’s carnival to Cadíz .

How many other festivals are held in Spain in February each year?
